The Perry City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.
The meeting started with City Administrator Sven Peterson giving an update on several projects around the City, as well as reporting on recent meetings with the airport commission about the runway extension, and Department of Transportation about the Highway 144 overlay and lane adjustments. During open forum, Jenny Eklund with Art on the Prairie talked about the next Street Scape Sculpture on Willis Avenue, which will be unveiled during the festival on November 10th. Additionally, a local business owner addressed a nuisance notification he had received regarding paving of property owned by the City adjacent to the bike trail. The Council promised to officially discuss the issue at a future meeting.
In old business, the Council approved a pay request of $44,533.77 to Elder Corporation for work done on the Willis Avenue bridge project. They also got an update on the progress of construction. Next, they approved two pay requests from Central States Roofing for work done on the McCreary Community Building roof. The first was in the amount of $3,792.61 for release of retainage for phase one, while the second was for $92,254.50 for work completed so far on phase two. It was also reported that phase two is nearly complete.
In new business, the Council approved the reappointments of Frank Eitman and Erin Butler to the Planning and Zoning Commission for four-year terms. Peterson added, they’re still looking for a volunteer to fill one open seat on the Commission as well. Finally, Finance Officer Susie Moorhead took the Council through the fiscal year 2018 Iowa DOT financial report, which was approved for submission.
