Stuart FD SignA Minnesota-based company recently made a donation to the Stuart Fire Department. M.A. Mortenson Company donated concrete and labor to pour a new entryway to the station this past weekend.

The company has been in Adair County this year as part of a wind farm project for MidAmerican Energy. Though the overall concrete in front of the station has been replaced over the last 20 years, the 50×50 foot section that was donated was still from the original building construction in 1974.

Stuart Fire Chief Mike Renslow is grateful for the project, as often times more cosmetic improvements have to be delayed so that safety improvements can be prioritized. “We’ve never compromised a safety-oriented piece of equipment for a pretty piece of equipment. So that’s why we hadn’t done the concrete out front is because we needed to allocate that money from the budgets to safety and life-saving devices.”

To hear more from Renslow on the project and other topics, listen to tomorrow’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
