Adel-Desoto-Minburn sophomore Nate Mueller continued his stellar second cross country season in Perry last night. The ADM cross country teams returned to competition for the first time in 10 days by running in the Leon Fox Cross Country Invitational at Perry’s Golf and Country Club. Mueller was the medalist in the second straight race he’s competed in, crossing the finish line first with a time of 16:30. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with Mueller after his first-place performance last night and said he was motivated by running against Madrid senior Sean McDermott. “He’s a really good runner, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A,” Mueller said, “I knew if I stayed with him, he’d pull me along.”
McDermott finished 12 seconds behind Mueller to take runner-up medalist honors. ADM sophomore Ethan Jurgens was the third runner across the finish line with a time of 17:03. Jurgens told Raccoon Valley Radio that he entered the race feeling good about the previous days’ practices. “We had a lot of mileage this week and we were running really hard,” Jurgens said, “I came into the meet thinking and knowing that we were all going to perform pretty well. I went out there and tried to run the best race possible.”
ADM finished fifth overall in the final team standings with 112 points. Madrid won the 2018 Leon Fox Cross Country Invitational boys team championship with a score of 46. The ADM girls cross country team finished eighth overall with 187 points. Freshman Brynn Busta was ADM’s top individual finisher in 22nd place at 22:34. The ADM cross country teams continue their season next Thursday running in the annual Atlantic Co-ED Cross Country Meet.
