Hispanics United for Perry

Here’s a reminder of numerous events going on in and around Dallas County tomorrow.

From noon until 6 p.m., Hispanics United for Perry (HUP) will be hosting the ¡Viva Perry! Latino Festival in the parking lot west of the Perry High School Performing Arts Center. There will be food and other vendors, dance performances, the Queen of the Festival competition, and more. Additionally, Hometown Heritage will be showing the documentary “Welcome to Shelbyville” inside the PAC from 2-4 p.m., which will include a community discussion as part of the “Becoming American” film series.

Next, the Friends of the Perry and Minburn Public Libraries are co-hosting the “Ride to Read” event from 1-4 p.m. on the Raccoon River Valley Trail. Participants can register at Forest Park Museum in Perry or the Minburn tennis courts. It’s designed for families with children in elementary school, and the first 100 attendees will receive a free copy of “Spin” by local author Rebecca Janni. Janni herself will be on hand at the halfway point between Perry and Minburn to sign books.

Finally, the community is invited to the Earlham Church of Christ from 2:30-4:30 p.m. for a celebration of life ceremony for Sabrina Ray of Perry. There will also be a formal service that will start at 4:30. Additionally, the biological family of the late teen is offering special invitations to all first responders and law enforcement officials. Listen to Raccoon Valley Radio next week for recaps of each of this weekend’s events.
