Frio Ribbon Cutting 1

The Frio Ice Cream Shop officially opened its doors in downtown Perry on August 21st. More than a month and around 5,500 orders later, they held a grand opening celebration.

Throughout their open hours yesterday, the ice cream parlor offered $1 scoops to encourage people to help them celebrate. General Manager Aaron Lenz said the promotion is something they may utilize more as the days continually get colder. He realizes that while Frio has been very popular since they first opened their doors, it will be an uphill battle to keep people coming in during the cold of winter. To that end, he has also been kicking around ideas for some warmer treats, such as some form of pie served a la mode.

To go along with the grand opening celebration, the Perry Chamber of Commerce also held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially welcome Frio into the fold. Lenz was pleased with how many people came out for the event. “It’s great, it’s always good to see a big turnout at these things! Everybody got some ice cream, no sad faces in the room. Yeah, it’s just nice to see a community embrace an effort like this, I guess, to put together a business and see such a big turnout in general, not just at this event. But (it’s) always nice to see that we’re offering a service to everybody, frankly!”

Frio is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., though Lenz says he will continue to monitor customer patterns moving forward. He promises to keep the public informed if he ever does alter the hours.
