Democratic candidate for Iowa House District 20 Warren Varley visited with community members Saturday in Guthrie County.
Varley, a Stuart resident, held the meet and greet event at Panorama West Club House in Panora, and he commented on a great turnout. Some of the concerns he discussed with citizens were lack of funding for public education and increasing class sizes.
With the general election less than a month away, Varley says his campaign has been a lot of fun as he’s gotten to meet leaders in education, government, business, and the community, “It’s really been encouraging knowing that the vast majority of citizens in Iowa and this district in particular agree on so many things. I think we’re used to hearing from extremists who are putting us in gridlock by butting heads over the most [distancing] issues. Most of us agree on the bulk of what we need to do to move forward and that’s what I want to help accomplish in the legislature.”
Varley is running against Republican Ray “Bubba” Sorensen for the seat served by Republican Clel Baudler of Greenfield, who is retiring at the end of the year. The district includes all of Guthrie and Adair counties, and the northeast portion of Cass and northwest portion of Dallas counties.
