The Guthrie County Secondary Roads Department kept busy with several projects this past summer.

As we delve further into fall, County Engineer Josh Sebern comments on the accomplishments the department has had this year, “We were able to replace up to eight bridges this summer on several different projects. Several of those went into box culverts. A couple were repairs and one we converted into a low water crossing which is an excellent way to deal with the bad bridges on dirt roads because it’s not something you want to put a bunch of money into but we have to maintain access so it’s a great thing and that’s something that our own local forces can do our own county employees do and they do a great job with that.”

Not all of the projects were completed on time as Sebern explains, “We did have some setbacks, one of these box culvert projects was delayed a little bit and some patching that we did on concrete roads was delayed as well and on that patching we’re going to come back in the spring and finish up some ones that we didn’t get to strictly because of time.”

The secondary road crews also did preparation work for an asphalt overlay project on F51, or Monteith Road between P28, or Stuart Road, and the Monteith Cemetery. The project is funded in part by a Surface Transportation Block Grant of $1.1 million, and will commence in the spring.
