City of Perry

At the most recent Perry City Council meeting, three of the items on the agenda related to the recently completed crack sealing project on City streets.

The first was a change order for $10,916.42, which was due to expanding the scope of the project. City Administrator Sven Peterson explained, when the City accepted the bid from Fahrner Asphalt Sealers from Dubuque, the total cost of the project was going to be considerably under the amount they had set aside for it. As a result, the City decided to take advantage of the low price. “We were hoping to get most of Willis and then some of Park Street. But the bid came in so good and so low, that we were able to do Willis, Park Street, North Street, 16th Street, and some of 2nd Street. So we were almost able to double the project from what we anticipated.”

Additionally, the contractor was able to take care of crack sealing in the City Hall parking lot at Caboose Park. The final cost for the project was $30,282.60, which was taken care of at the meeting in a pay request that was unanimously approved. Finally, the Council approved the final acceptance and certificate of completion, officially wrapping up the project. Peterson was complimentary of Fahrner, particularly their cost and efficiency, and said he’d like them to come back some day to work on other projects in Perry. They may get that chance, as the Public Works Department would like to do a crack sealing project once a year, if possible, as part of their pavement management program.
