It’s been 26 years since Linduska Field in Jefferson has hosted a week nine high school football game with as much riding on it as there will be tonight. Coach Mitch Moore’s Greene County Rams host Coach Larry Allen’s OABCIG (Ida Grove) Falcons in a Class 2A District 9 contest that has playoff implications for both teams. Both squads are 7-1 overall and both are 3-1 in the district with road losses for both. The Rams fell in week six in Carroll to Kuemper Catholic and the Falcons lost in week five to Red Oak. OABCIG beat Kuemper Catholic last Friday, while the Rams won at Red Oak the same night.

If OABCIG wins tonight they will win the district title and advance to the first round of the 2A playoffs on Oct. 26. If the Rams win, Kuemper Catholic wins the district title if the Knights beat 0-8 Shenandoah, by virtue of their head-to-head win three weeks ago. Greene County could still qualify for the playoffs with a win tonight even though they may not own the tie-breaker for first place.  The Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) is used to determined playoff winners who don’t win or tie for their district titles. The Rams sit at number 12 in the RPI going into the regular season finale.

Tonight’s game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage starting at 6 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m.
