The Greene County Development Corporation met Tuesday.
President Sid Jones reviewed the next steps regarding Vision 2020. He said for any projects they want to pursue further with the help of Zach Mannheimer, there would be a fee involved. However, Jones suggested that they hold off on any projects until next spring. As for a housing update, Jones noted that Jefferson Building Official Nick Sorensen has decided to focus his attention on the city’s housing committee, while GCDC is asking Norm Fandel to step back in for their housing committee.
During reports, Jefferson Matters: Main Street Program Director Peg Raney said a group with Iowa Economic Development Authority visited Jefferson to look over projects that used Challenge Grant money with the Kendall and the AEA buildings, along with the Catalyst Grant funds with the Oddfellows building for Pillar Technology. She added that the Board is working on their 2019 priorities.
GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton then talked about going to the largest trade show in the country next month in Atlanta, Georgia. He is going on behalf of Western Iowa Advantage. The purpose of the trip is to talk with organizations that recruit businesses that want to relocate. He also mentioned that one of their lots in the east business park along Highway 30 has been formally purchased by a local funeral home.
