The Panora City Council met in regular session Monday.
Panorama School District Business Manager Dominique Bryant presented concerns about the district’s electric bill for the first quarter of the current fiscal year. Bryant says the bill increased 77% for $22,726.66. The increase was attributed to the demand charge that wasn’t previously billed to the district. The City started applying the demand rate on July 1st. According to a report from Panora Municipal Electric, Panorama is the biggest demand contributor of the City with 44%. Bryant says this increased cost is a large burden for the district’s budget which is set through 2020.
The Council requested Bryant draft two different plans for the district to implement in order to manage the cost. Two council members were absent at this week’s meeting, so the Council felt they should look over those options at their November 12th meeting and then decide if they wish to draft an ordinance to subsidize Panorama’s bill incrementally over three years.
