The high school wrestling season in Iowa starts eleven days from now, but every squad knows the postseason path they’ll take beginning in February. The Panorama Panthers are once again considered a Class 1A wrestling squad. Last Thursday, the Panthers found out that they are assigned the Class 1A Section 3 and the Class 1A District 2 tournaments. The Panthers’ first postseason grouping will feature grapplers from AC/GC, AHSTW, Exira-EHK, Nodaway Valley, Ogden, and West Central Valley on February 2. The Class 1A Section 4 tournament showcases wrestlers from Bedford-Lenox, Central Decatur, East Union, Interstate 35, Moravia, Mount Ayr, SE Warren, and Wayne. The two two placing individuals in each weight class in both sectionals will advance to the district tournament on Saturday, February 9 at Interstate 35 High School in Truro. Panorama qualified five wrestlers for the 2018 Iowa State Wrestling tournament in Des Moines including recent graduates Danny Nordquist, Gunnar Grunsted, Trevor Carey, and Dalton Holmes. Sophomore Wyatt Appleseth is the lone returning state qualifier from last year’s squad. The 2019 Iowa High School State Wrestling tournament takes place February 14 through the 16th at Wells Fargo Arena in downtown Des Moines.
