Election Day is nearing, and voters in Guthrie, Adair, northwest Dallas, and northeast Cass counties will be voting for a new representative in State House District 20.
Two newcomers are running for the seat held by retiring Republican Clel Baudler, Republican Ray Sorensen and Democrat Warren Varley. Sorensen is a graphic designer and mural artist who resides in Greenfield. Sorensen tells why constituents should vote for him, “I’m a common sense, hardworking guy. I want to be a voice of the people, I want to strengthen our rural economics, and I want to be a voice for our veterans. I want to figure out how to get access and affordability in our healthcare for everyone.”
Varley is a farmer and practicing lawyer in Stuart. Varley says he’s running for effective representation at the state capital, “Being an effective advocate requires experience, understanding, and passion for rural Iowa and that’s what I intend to take to the capital on your behalf. But this isn’t about me, this is about public service. I’m putting myself out here because some things have to change if we’re going to turn things around for rural Iowa.”
