Last Friday, Panorama senior Brooke Halterman made her college choice public by signing a letter of intent to join the Southwestern Community College Spartan’s Women’s Volleyball Team next fall. Halterman had multiple junior college programs interested in her talents on the hardwood including Des Moines Area Community College, Marshalltown Community College, and Cloud County Community College of Concordia, Kansas. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network was in attendance for Halterman’s signing and learned what separated Southwestern Community College (SWICC) from the rest of the pack. “I set up a visit (to SWICC) and when I was there, I (found out) they had a really good physical therapy program, which I what I want to major in,” Halterman said, “I got to talk with Coach (Casey) Quiggle, and his philosophy (is) academics before athletics and I really enjoyed that. After that, I got in the car and I (told my parents) thats where I want to go. It was comfortable for me.”
The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with Coach Quiggle for a short time during Halterman’s signing. He shared with RVR that he likes her height, lateral movement and believes she has a good swing. Quiggle also addressed ways Halterman can improve while at SWICC. “Strength and quickness come with time,” Quiggle said, “Girls tend to develop more as they get older in their senior year of high school and then freshman and sophomore years of college. So that’ll be a nice thing to see.”
Quiggle adds having Halterman training in a college setting will help improve all aspects of her game, including her strength and quickness. Hear interviews with Halterman and Quiggle on the next Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page, tonight at 6 p.m. on True Country K 107.9.
