As the weather turns colder, summer season construction projects are wrapping up for the year.
The Greene County Secondary Roads Department handled a few projects this year. County Engineer Wade Weiss says they started the construction season by finishing up pavement patching near the E-57 bridge that was replaced last year. As for the E-18 bridge, two miles east of P-29, Weiss is hoping to finish replacing that structure before the end of the year, but delaying another part of the project. “Although the pavement preservation project, or replacement, we’re probably going to extend into the spring (of next year).”
The bridge replacement project of $609,000 is to widen the structure to 30-feet-six-inches and the $1.2 million asphalt overlay will be handled by Fort Dodge Asphalt.
Finally, Weiss notes that he is working with MidAmerican Energy to address road issues from last year’s damage that was caused by the first set of wind turbines.
“We’re still looking at signing off on areas of gravel road maintenance that needs to be completed. We also have some pavement repair that needs to be completed. Some of that will be completed this fall and remainder (will be done) in the spring.”
He adds that MidAmerican Energy has agreed to pay for the repairs and will be reimburse the County when those repairs are made.
