Don’t forget, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is inviting the public to a kick-off event tonight to celebrate and raise funds for the “Ride the Thin Blue Line” project.
Sheriff Chad Leonard came up with the idea to have the section of the Raccoon River Valley Trail that will run adjacent to the new County Law Enforcement Center become a memorial to Iowa police officers and first responders who have fallen in the line of duty. The project will not be County-funded, and instead is being paid for through public donations. As such, tonight’s event will serve as the first of many fundraisers to get the memorial off the ground. It is being hosted at Mickey’s Irish Pub in Waukee from 7-11 p.m., and Leonard will give a presentation talking about the vision and inspiration behind the project. There will also be performances by two different bands, and “Ride the Thin Blue Line” t-shirts.
