The high school basketball season begins in the middle school gym in Jefferson tonight with Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) visiting Greene County in a girl/boy basketball doubleheader known as the Hall of Pride Scrimmages. The girls play at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow. Both scrimmages will be played under game-like conditions, but won’t count in the season record for any of the teams.

The Greene County girls are under the direction of first year head coach Tyler Westhoff. Jeff Lamoureux returns as the JV coach and Adriana Vargas is the JV Reserve coach. Greene County went 5-16 last season under former head coach Dean Lyons.

Chris Nelson enters his third season with the Rams as the boys’ coach. His first two Greene County teams have been 14-9 and 12-11. Former standout player for the Rams Trey Tucker, an Iowa Central Community College Student, is coaching the freshmen. Mark Renslow is a volunteer coach.

The Rams begin the regular season on Monday, Nov. 26 by hosting the Ogden Bulldogs in the middle school gym in Jefferson.
