West Central Valley Wildcat

After the largest lottery prize in Iowa was won by a Redfield resident, the West Central Valley School District is reaping some of the benefits.

Casey’s General Store received $10,000 from the Iowa Lottery for selling the winning Powerball ticket to Lerynne West, and Casey’s announced $5,000 would go towards the school district. Superintendent Lance Ridgely shares one project the grant could go towards, “I think first and foremost one of the things we’re looking at doing is doing some work over in the middle school in Redfield. The gym itself, the floor is aged, and so what we’d like to do is go in there and refinish it. And when I say refinish it we’re going to bring a company in and they’ll sand it down to the wood and repaint it, restain it, and reseal it, so that’ll more than take care of the $5,000 grant that we’ve got.”

Ridgely adds the grant could also go towards purchasing new lunch tables across the district. He said it’s nice to see a community partner give back, and they’re happy to receive this gift.
