The ongoing situation involving the mayorship of the City of Woodward appears to be nearing a resolution, as there is now a date for the special election.

On December 11th, voters in Woodward will be casting their ballot to choose their next mayor and City Council member. Following the resignation of Mayor Brian Devick, the Council initially chose to appoint their nex mayor, and did so by selecting Council member Todd Folkerts at their regular meeting on October 8th. However, even prior to the appointment, many in the City had already begun collecting signatures to demand a special election. The full petition was submitted to the City on October 18th and its validity was confirmed by the Council during a special session.

The City then submitted the paperwork for a special election to the Dallas County Auditor’s Office, which in turn set the date. Folkerts is expected to run for the seat he was appointed to which will also leave a Council seat open, so that will also be chosen during the election. Whoever is elected to fill the offices will serve the remainder of the terms, which in the case of the mayor is one more year.
