I Court Vacation

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors recently approved the vacation of a road near Perry, which was at the request of Tyson Foods.

Tyson had submitted a proposal to vacate the portion of I Court running north from Willis Avenue, which serves as the entrance to their plant. It was reviewed by County Engineer Al Miller who saw no major issues that could pop up as a result, so he brought it before the Board and it was considered at a recent public hearing. During the hearing, a representative from Tyson was on hand to answer any questions that the Board or public had regarding the request. Also at the hearing was a representative from Alliant Energy, because one of the County’s concerns was the electrical substation that is accessed via I Court. According to the representative, the utility company had no issue with the County vacating the road, mostly because Alliant is planning to take the substation out of commission when they get a bigger one built nearby. In the meantime, per Iowa code they will have access to the substation to perform maintenance.

Also in attendance for the public hearing was John Peters, owner of Peters Service Center, which is adjacent to the road being vacated. He had done some research and came to the conclusion that vacating I Court would have no impact on the gas station, so he also supported the proposal. After hearing what everyone had to say in the public hearing, the Supervisors unanimously approved the vacation request. Tyson will now be in charge of the maintenance and repair of the road, though other than that the representative said not much should change.
