Interior work is progressing on the new Dallas County Law Enforcement Center, as the exterior walls are nearly completed.
Sheriff Chad Leonard says the contractors have also installed much of the heating and electricity throughout the facility, meaning quite a bit can be done throughout the winter months. Leonard says most people he talks to have expressed their excitement about the progress of the center, and he fields questions about it on a daily basis. “We get a lot of people making comments that they think it looks too small. But once you get in it, and once you come out and visit us and take a tour when it’s open, I think you’ll be pretty happy with what’s been designed for the County and for the future.”
As far as a timeline for the completion of the facility, Leonard says there have been some delays, but it’s still on schedule. “You know, my understanding was October/November (for completion) when it first started. And then it got pushed up, like if everything continues on pace it was June/July. We had those rains for quite a while, and that couldn’t have happened at a worse time for some of the folks working out there. So just to be safe, they’ve pushed it back to (an) October timeframe. So we haven’t lost ground yet.”
Additionally, the Board of Supervisors recently approved the ninth pay application for the center. It included payments made to 11 different contractors for a total of $853,014.69. The construction managers the Samuels Group said there is still around $609,000 in the contingency log, which they indicated is perfect for where the project currently sits. See below for a complete list of payments from the most recent application and the contractors who received them.
