The recount election results have been made official and Greene County will have a new county treasurer.

Following the recount results from Tuesday, Republican candidate Katlynn Gannon-Mechaelsen defeated Democrat incumbent Donna Lawson with 2,028 to 2,027 votes. The three-person recount committee of Sean Sebourn, Chris Henning and Tom Yepsen hand counted the 4,050 ballots that were cast in the general election, which took over 11-hours.

The request for a recount was made by Lawson following the canvass of votes by the Greene County Board of Supervisors last week. The canvass showed that Gannon-Mechaelsen won the election by two votes 2,026 to 2,024. The recount committee determined that there were four undervote and one write-in ballots that they had to decide what the voter intent was, which ultimately changed the final vote totals, but not the outcome.

The Board of Supervisors re-canvassed the votes Wednesday morning to make the final total official.
