Friday night, the City of Perry was just a little bit brighter, as the Chamber of Commerce presented the annual Lighted Parade and Holiday Celebration around downtown.
The sidewalks along 2nd and 3rd streets were lined with people as they watched the assortment of illuminated parade entries pass them by, including Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio. There was some worry from the community that the weather could alter the parade plans. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti said while the parade was never in danger of cancellation, she was glad that the weather cleared up in time for there to be a huge crowd. “It’s fun to see everyone come out for the parade, and see the floats and all the lights, and just kick off the holiday season. It was just really great to have that community spirit. Thanks to everyone for coming out and making it a special event, and we’ll look forward to making it even better next year!”
Following the parade, people were able to head to a variety of locations for an assortment of activities. La Poste co-owner Jenny Eklund was once again pleased with the turnout for Santa, as there was a line halfway down the street to see him. Hotel Pattee General Manager Aaron Lenz was also pleased with the attendance for their pancake dinner, cookie decorating, and live music performances. Most people seemed to agree that spreading the event out this year was a good decision, so Pasutti says that is likely to continue in subsequent years.
