The citizens of Woodward will be heading to the polls this Tuesday, as they are tasked with selecting the City’s new mayor and Council member.

The City Council originally intended on appointing a mayor following the resignation of previous Mayor Brian Devick, but a petition from residents prompted a special election. Since the Council’s appointee, Todd Folkerts, was a Council member himself and is on the ballot for mayor, voters will also choose someone to fill his vacated Council seat. According to the Dallas County Auditor’s Office, Folkerts was the only candidate for mayor who submitted the required nomination papers, though there could be write-ins for the office. For the vacant Council seat three individuals are on the ballot, including Kelly Kirts, Franklin Weatherbee, and David Whitney.

The polling location for the special election will be the Woodward United Methodist Church, and the polls will be open from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. Whoever is elected to fill the offices will serve the remainder of the terms, which for both is one more year.
