A Class 2A top 15 girls basketball game takes place tonight in southern Dallas County between two undefeated teams from the West Central Activites Conference. The sixth-ranked Panorama Panthers (4-0 overall) faces arguably their toughest test of the young season when they travel to face the No. 15 Van Meter Bulldogs (5-0). The matchup features the top two scoring teams in the conference with Van Meter leading the league at 55 points scored per game and Panorama second at 53. Panorama girls basketball coach Dan Druivenga said returning experience has helped Van Meter become one of the most improved league opponents from last season. “Van Meter I think has everyone pretty much back (from last year),” Druivenga said, “A second year with a coach always helps out a little bit too. (The players) know what to expect of the coach and what the coach wants of them. They will be a tough challenge at their place.”
Van Meter is returning home after three straight wins on the road. Arguably their most impressive win on the season came at home against Class 4A Adel-Desoto-Minburn, handing the Tigers at 68-48 loss on November 20. Junior Clair Lauterbach leads Van Meter with 80 points scored this winter, an average of 16 points per game. The varsity girls game between Panorama and Van Meter kicks off a West Central Activities Conference doubleheader at 6 p.m. tonight at Van Meter High School.
