As the Raccoon Valley Radio Caring Christmas Food Drives continue to roll along, Tuesday was a big day as Paton-Churdan students participated.
P-C collected over 200 items which were donated to the Greene County Action Resource Center (ARC). Principal Annie Smith says through the partnership with Raccoon Valley Radio, each student who brought in a donation qualifed to be entered into a drawing for a four pack of tickets to an Iowa State University men’s basketball game.
“The Caring Christmas Food Drive is always something we’re very happy to be apart of. Thankful for Raccoon Valley (Radio) to be able to give some Iowa State tickets as a little incentive too. But the kids, that’s not their main focus. Their main focus is really giving and it’s just really exciting to see them understand that the meaning this time of year really is about giving and it’s not just about receiving.”
In the end, the student that won the tickets to the ISU home game against Texas Christian University on February 9th was kindergartener Keegan Minnihan. The youngster is a fan of basketball talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about who he would take to the game including his twin sister. “Kenna, daddy and mommy. I watch basketball and I like basketball.”
Each time food is donated during the Caring Christmas Food Drives, all of the food stays in that community and is given to the local food pantry.
