Late game execution has catapulted the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers girls basketball team to the top of the Raccoon River Conference standings. The Tigers 67-37 victory Tuesday in Adel over the Carsilie Wildcats gave ADM sole possession of first place with three league wins. The Tigers, who scored 19 points total in the fourth quarter and overtime last season in two losses versus the Wildcats, produced 18 points in the final eight minutes of Tuesday’s victory. ADM currently leads the conference and rank fourth in all of Class 4A girls basketball with 109 fourth-quarter points scored, averaging 15 points in the game’s last period.

ADM girls basketball coach Jacob Cleveland told Raccoon Valley Radio that he’s pleased with the shot selection his players are taking. “These girls are really intelligent,” Cleveland said, “They know the score, they know the time, and so they’re going to take good shots. They are going to take unselfish shots. After halftime of our loss to Van Meter, I told the girls we need to take better shots. We’re not a three-point shooting team; we’ll shoot those shots when they’re there.”

Since the Van Meter loss on November 20, the Tigers have rattled off five straight wins while scoring 18 or more fourth quarter points in four of the games. ADM currently leads the Raccoon River Conference in total points scored with 395, an average of 56 points per game. The Tigers averaged just over 41 points during last year’s 9-14 campaign. ADM continues Raccoon River Conference play this Friday in central Dallas County against the Perry Jayettes. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will have live play by play coverage of the contest on True Country K 107.9, raccoonvalleyradio.com, and the KKRF mobile app.
