Wrestling fans from all over Dallas and Polk County filled the south gym at Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community Schools Thursday night. The Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers varsity wrestling team welcomed neighbor and former Raccoon River Conference rival Dallas Center-Grimes to town last night for their yearly nonconference dual. ADM head wrestling coach Chris Hatchitt shared with Raccoon Valley Radio that having the dual in the districts other gym space provided an excellent backdrop for the event. “We set up the mats, and in the south gym we’re able to turn off the lights for a spotlight effect,” Hatchitt said, “It builds the atmosphere. Being in a smaller gym, when we pack more people in here it’s louder; it feels like the fans are right on the mat.”

The Class 3A Mustangs proved to be too tough for the 2A Tigers, earning bonus points on seven of their eight-match wins for a 43-24 victory. ADM scored their points on four decisions and two pinfalls. Dallas Center-Grimes tallied points on four falls, two wins by forfeit, a major decision, and one decision win. Registering pinfall wins for ADM were senior Nolan Harsh (182) and junior Kaden Sutton (220). ADM grapplers who tallied decision wins included Cole Williamson (120), Andrew Flora (126), Hogan Hopewell (132), and Justice Paulsen (195). The ADM Tiger varsity wrestling team resumes their season tomorrow in Madison County, competing in the annual Gary Christensen Invitational at Winterset Community Schools.
