A new year of high school sports competition opened in Panora Thursday night on the hardwood. The Panorama Panthers varsity basketball teams played host to the IKM-Manning Wolves for a nonconference doubleheader. The Panther girls basketball team started the night with a 58-43 victory. Panorama found themselves down 38-37 entering the fourth quarter and closed the game on a 21-5 run to keep their undefeated record intact. Senior Bailey Beckman led all scorers with 21 points while senior Morgan Johnk added 18 in the victory. The nightcap saw IKM-Manning top Panorama in the boys’ contest, 46-42. The Panthers held a 28-14 halftime lead before being outscored 32-18 in the second half. Senior Gracen Welburg dropped 22 points to lead Panorama in scoring. The loss drops the Panther boys basketball team’s record to 4-5 overall. Both Panther basketball teams are back on the floor tonight against Guthrie County neighbor and West Central Activites Conference rival West Central Valley.
