The ACGC wrestling team began the 2019 portion of their season with two competitive fixtures in the opening week.
The Chargers finished 2-1 at the Griswold quadrangular on Thursday. The two lopsided victories came over the host Tigers (54-9) and Exira-EHK (59-3). They fell to AHSTW 27-54. Wrestlers going undefeated by fall, forfeit, or decision included: Blaine Beeler (120), Gabe Rowley (145), Gavin Cornelison (170), Ben Kingery (195), and Gage Buttler (220). ACGC’s overall dual record now sits at 10-3.
Over the weekend the gold and black made the short trip north with an underhanded squad to the Crusader Invitational in Coon Rapids. Every participating Charger wrestler finished in the top six, though nearly every bracket had less than eight individuals at the start of the day. Beeler swept the only other competitor in the 120 pound weight class with consecutive pin falls inside of 90 seconds to claim the title. Three other Chargers finished in 3rd place, including Cale Rowley (126), Gabe Rowley (145), and Kingery (195).
ACGC will continue their schedule on Thursday with a home quadrangular featuring Tri-Center, Riverside, and Woodbine. You can hear an interview with head coach Shawn Danker on tonight’s Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page, beginning at 6pm on True Country K107.9.
