From colonoscopies to a breast biopsy, there are several surgical services residents can seek right here in Guthrie County.

Guthrie County Hospital now employs Iowa Specialty Surgeons Drs. Paul Conte and Timothy Mayfield to offer general surgery procedures. Both surgeons are staffed at the hospital on staggered days of the week to offer flexible scheduling for patients. Surgical Services Manager Doris Terwilliger explains the importance of offering these procedures, “Well, I do think that here in Guthrie County we do have somewhat of an elderly population and I think it’s very nice that we here at Guthrie County Hospital are able to serve that population. A lot of elderly people don’t have children that live close so they’re able to maybe get a neighbor or are able to drive themselves up here where if they had to travel to Des Moines they may not be able to get this service.”
