With classes in the Perry School District back in session for the second semester of the current school year, so to is Perry’s Academic, Cultural, and Enrichment Services (PACES) program.
One activity students in the program can look forward to this month is the next Wednesday Library Club with Miss Suzanne. PACES Director Mary Hillman says the activity is new this school year, but the kids have enjoyed the first few programs. It involves a trip to the library to meet with Children’s Librarian Suzanne Kestel, and Hillman says the club shows the students the enjoyment to be gained from reading. “She really wanted to take what we do in the summer, which is wonderful, but really continue with literacy skills. And encourage, especially our older students, how fun reading can be. And it’s actually Wednesday once a month. We started in November, and we’ll run through March. But (we) really want to encourage reading, a great activity to do in the winter, and not just video games and T.V.”
The next event will be on Wednesday, January 16th, with the 4th and 5th graders meeting between 3-3:45 p.m., and the 3rd graders from 3:45-4:30. Hillman says the students don’t have to do any additional sign-up for the program, as it’s a part of the normal PACES curriculum.
