The Greene County high school girls’ basketball team lost to previously winless Saydel in Des Moines on Friday night, dropping the Rams to 0-10 on the season and 0-7 through the first round of Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. Entering the contest, the Rams averaged 22 points per game and the Eagles averaged 20. Saydel won the game 35-22, scoring 15 points above their average while the Rams were right at their average points per game.

The first quarter of games have been especially difficult for Greene County to score points, as shown by the Rams’ 3.8 average in the opening eight minutes. Against Saydel, Greene County actually led 6-5 after one quarter of play, but did go the first 6 minutes 52 seconds of the contest with no points. They scored just two second quarter points, four in the third quarter, and 10 points in the fourth. By that time the Rams trailed by double digits.

Next up for Greene County is a Friday night trip to Gilbert. The Tigers won the first meeting this season by a 55-21 final in Jefferson. The girls play at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow and both games can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvaleyradio.com with coverage Friday at 5:45 p.m.
