There are a few youth programs coming up with the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department.

Mini Cheerleading will take place on Tuesday, January 22nd and Thursday, January 24th from 3:30 to 5pm at the Greene County Elementary School for pre-kindergarten through fifth graders. The Greene County High School winter cheerleaders will lead the program and participants will perform a routine during halftime of the home varsity girls basketball game on January 25th. Cost to participate is $10 and the deadline to register is January 8th.

The Strength and Pace program will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from January 15th through May 16th for sixth graders. JPRD Assistant Director Emily Vander Wilt will lead the program that will develop the sixth grader’s athletic abilities. JPRD Director Vicky Lautner explains a little bit about what Vander Wilt will do with the kids.

“She does fitness classes with them. They’ll do a variety of different things, they’ll do weights, they’ll do running, they’ll do any type of fitness course that she feels the need for the kids to get ready for seventh grade sports.”

Cost to participate is $10 and the classes will be at the Greene County Community Center. Call 386-3412 or stop by the community center to sign up for either program.
