Gilbert swept two Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball games from Greene County in Gilbert on Friday night. The Tigers were 71-22 winners in the girls’ game, then won the boys’ contest by a 91-64 final. Both games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The Greene County girls were within 5-4 before the Class 4A number 14 Tigers went on a 20-0 run to take firm control. The Rams fell to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the conference while the Tigers improved to 9-4 and 7-1. Bailey Cunningham had seven points and Izzy Bravard six for the Rams. Freshman Ava Hawthorne had 26 points, four more than the entire Greene County team.

The Rams trailed the boys’ game 17-15 after one quarter and 41-30 at halftime. The Tigers stretched the lead to 67-50 at the end of the third quarter, and 28 points was the largest lead. Gilbert, ranked in the top 10 in Class 3A, had 11 players score two or more points and were led by Will Turner with 19 and Matt Ockey with 18. Greene County had 23 points from Carter Morton and 14 by Trey Hinote. The Tigers improved to 8-0 in conference play and 10-2 overall, while Greene County fell to 3-5 in HOIAC games and 5-7 overall.

The Greene County teams host non-conference opponent Winterset on Monday in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Tuesday means a HOIAC road trip to Nevada.
