U.S. Representative for Iowa’s Third Congressional District Cindy Axne (D) has a busy weekend ahead in Iowa as continued talks to end the partial government shutdown will have her back in the nation’s capital next week.
Axne was selected this week to serve on the U.S. House Financial Services and Agriculture committees. She shared about her third week in the legislative session with Raccoon Valley Radio Thursday, “Where I’m at is that I have voted for multiple bills now to reopen government, seven bills, and I want to make sure that that happens as soon as possible, so we’re actively working here to make sure that we make that happen. I wish I could be back in District (3) all of next week, that was the plan but I’m being called back to Congress on Tuesday most likely. So tomorrow (Friday) I’m hitting several counties to get out and fulfill my promise of visiting every county every month, and then on Saturday (today) I’m going to 11 counties because it’s been my priority to make sure that Iowa voices are heard.”
Axne voted this past Wednesday to support the Disaster Supplemental Appropriations Act which passed in the House, to help Iowa farmers and rural communities recovering from severe weather disasters in 2018. The bill also included funding to reopen the government through February 8th, and heads to the Senate for consideration.
