City of Perry

The Perry City Council has approved the creation a completely new department within the City, which will handle a wide assortment of responsibilities.

City Administrator Sven Peterson says for the last two years he’s been working on creating a Community and Economic Development Department, which has at last come to fruition. The department will handle planning and zoning, compliance, housing development, economic growth, and many other areas. Peterson says to go along with the new department, the City is also looking for a Department Director. “This person will kind of be in control and have a lot of flexibility and room to be creative with their position. So hopefully doing some business development activities, marketing the community for development, taking over some of these housing initiatives that we’ve started, and really just taking the reins on all that development stuff. Being able to have that one, single point person to go to when you need to do a development project in town. So being able to have that person under our roof and kind of overseeing all of the things that need to happen to make a development successful.”

Peterson adds, the Director will need to be a “Jack of All Trades,” while still having credible experience in economic development. He believes the ideal candidate is someone looking for a new challenge who can help develop the position along with the new department. Anyone interested in applying for the job is encouraged to reach out to Perry City Hall at 515-465-2481.
