Congressman Steve King

President Donald Trump will make his State of the Union Address tomorrow night and there have been reports that part of the speech will include the need for the border wall against Mexico.

One proponent of building the wall continues to be US Congressman Steve King. “I stand with the president on this. We need a wall, we’ve long needed a wall. Walls don’t have prosecutorial discretion. They work whether it’s foggy, or cold, or rainy. They don’t have to wait for good flying weather. Somebody throws a rock at a wall, it bounces off, they don’t have to engage with somebody that does that. It keeps people on their proper side of the border.”

A negotiation committee is still trying to come to a solution before the February 15th deadline when a funding extension bill was signed to stop the longest partial federal government shutdown in American history. However, King doesn’t see a permanent solution happening.

“This isn’t about a cooperative effort to run our government anymore, this is about what color jersey you have on and then the leadership making the call. I’ve never seen it this bad.”

King believes that if the House Democrats keep blocking Trump’s request to build a wall, he suggests the Trump declares a national emergency and build the wall with military funding.
