The Perry City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.

In new business, the Council approved a resolution to enter into a professional services agreement with ETHOS Design Group of Polk City, for the purposes of evaluating and planning for the McCreary Community Building. City Administrator Sven Peterson said they elected to part ways with the previous firm, SVPA Architects, due to performance issues. He added, the City will attempt to recoup some of the money they already paid to SVPA, and will use it to pay for the services provided by ETHOS. After that, the Council approved the tax abatement applications for construction completed in 2018. Peterson said there were around nine new homes built during the year and a dozen home improvement projects that qualified.

Finally, the Council approved a $5-per-hour pay increase for Compliance Officer Mark Colton. He had been performing the duties of Building Official since the resignation of Abraham Cardenes, and the City felt it necessary to compensate him for the additional work. Colton’s pay increase will be effective retroactively as of January 1st.
