Downtown square in Jefferson

Road conditions are improving as a winter weather advisory remains in effect for the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area.

Now that the snowfall has ceased, road conditions have been improving throughout the day. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, most of the roads in Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties are partially covered with snow. Dallas, Guthrie and Adair counties are under a tow ban.

Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says city crews started plowing roads at 3am today. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the snow ordinance will be in effect for only the downtown square overnight tonight, which means parking will be prohibited from 2 to 6am. Morlan says it’s because crews will be re-plowing the deposited snow from the businesses and picking up the snow that is piled up in the median of the roadway. (this part I’ll only include in the breaking news cut number for KGRA)

The National Weather Service says a winter weather advisory remains in effect for Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties. The main threat with the advisory is high wind gusts of 40-miles-per-hour, which will create areas of blowing and drifting snow.

Listen to Raccoon Valley Radio for continuing cancellation and postponement information throughout the rest of the day today.
