A reminder, today is National Take Your Child to the Library Day, and the Perry Public Library has an assortment of activities throughout the day to advocate youth reading.

The observance will run today from 10 a.m. – 1p.m. Library Director Mary Murphy says the festivities will include balloon animals and face-painting, and each child who shows up will take home a free book. Additionally, there will be several local businesses and organizations at the event who will have information about children’s programs and services in Dallas County. Murphy says the purpose of the celebration is to promote the development of good reading habits in childhood, while also encouraging families to make library visits a regular habit.

She adds, it’s also a great opportunity for kids to get their own library cards, so they can check out all the books they want for free. Take Your Child to the Library Day is free to attend and no registration is required.
