state-wrestling-2019

The 2019 State Wrestling Tournament has officially wrapped up, and Woodward-Granger junior Cody Fisher was the sole competitor from the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area to emerge as a state champion.

To do so, Fisher had to defeat a fellow Dallas County wrestler, junior Kaden Sutton from Adel-DeSoto-Minburn. Fischer had been a state runner up the past two years in class 2A at 195 pounds, and he finally broke through this year at 220. Second place is the highest Sutton has ever placed at state. Elsewhere Saturday, Winterset junior Bryce Hatten took the mat in the 2A final at 126, but fell to freshman Hayden Taylor of Solon, who knocked out top-seeded Andrew Flora, the senior from ADM. Hatten would stand on the second place podium, with Flora ending up at 3rd. Another 3rd place finisher was Perry senior Kaleb Olejniczak in 2A at 126. Olejniczak wrapped up his career as the winningest wrestler in Perry history, but never took a state title.

Other wrestlers from the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area to place include: Winterset junior Jack West at 4th place in 2A at 145; ADM senior Nolan Harsh at 4th place in 2A at 182; Winterset junior Kruise Kiburz at 5th place in 2A at 132; Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center senior Blaine Beeler at 6th place in 1A at 120; Dallas Center-Grimes junior Luke Fistler at 6th place in 3A at 160; Van Meter-Earlham junior Caleb Swalla at 7th place in 2A at 160; West Central Valley senior Carson Wadle at 7th in 1A at 195; and ACGC senior Easton Benson at 8th in 1A at 138.
