The Adel Public Library has a few free children’s programs coming up early in this month.
The first is a new early literacy program called “Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader.” The event will be led by retired Adel Elementary Principal Carol Ericson, and is being presented through a partnership with State Farm Insurance. It will be held this Tuesday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Children in preschool or kindergarten and their parents or caregivers can learn about ways to prepare for reading, and each child will receive a free book.
The next event is this coming Friday, which will take advantage of the early-dismissal from school. At 2 p.m., younger kids can head to the children’s area for the “Wee Make Sensory Scenes” program. Participants will create a beach and water scene to play with, which can include a wide assortment of sea creatures. At that same time, teenagers and tweens can go to the “Bored Room” for a program on gumdrop engineering. Attendees will learn how to use candy and toothpicks to build a structure strong enough to hold a book.
No registration is required for any of the upcoming events. To learn more, visit the Adel Library’s website, AdelPL.org.
