At a recent meeting of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors, the Secondary Roads Department once again had the majority of the items on the agenda.

The first item approved was an out of state travel request for County Engineer Al Miller. He will be attending the National Association of County Engineers conference in Wichita, Kansas from April 14-18. The conference is something Miller attends every year, and the Board recognized the value of his continued attendance when considering the request. Next, the Supervisors approved a contract with Batey, LTD for the debris removal project. The contractor will handle the cleanup of seven locations affected by the severe storms last summer. The contract amount was $198,825, which will be paid through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The last roads department item from the meeting was a public hearing to consider bids, plans and specifications, and form of contract for the central maintenance facility storage building. The County received bids from three different contractors on February 7th, with the low bid of $515,555 coming from Pro-Line Building Company of New Sharon. The bid was around 12% lower than the original estimate and the company is one the County has had a good relationship with in the past, so the Board had no issues in awarding the work to them. The project has a late start date of May 1st, but can begin sooner depending on the weather. It’s estimated to take around 60 work days to complete.
