Congresswoman Cindy Axne was visiting several cities around Iowa’s Third Congressional District Sunday, including stops in Menlo and Adel.
Axne, who is starting the third month of her first term in office, was taking part in what she’s calling “Connect with your Congresswoman,” and visited six counties in the district she represents. In addition to the Dallas and Guthrie County stops, she also visited Adair, Adams, Cass, and Madison counties. At each location she met with local constituents who asked her questions one-on-one and raised their concerns over what’s going on in the country. Axne started her trip at the Menlo Cafe, and wrapped it up at the Adel Family Fun Center.
She told Raccoon Valley Radio why she feels talking to people face-to-face is important as a Congresswoman. “Well first I need to make it easy for my constituents to reach out to me, and that means going to the places where they’re located. And so it’s important that I go out to as many parts of this district as possible. Change up the towns that I’m going to so I can be in front of people who I might not have had a chance to talk to, so they can tell me about their issues. Because there’s no better way to make sure that you’re keeping the tap on what’s happening in your district than by going out and talking with the people who it’s affecting.”
Axne added, the people she talked to Sunday were pleased that she is on the Agriculture Committee and Financial Services Committee, and that she has sponsored 22 bills that have passed, many of which were bi-partisan. She plans on visiting each county in the third district once a month for her entire first term.
