About 40 people attended a meet and greet event Saturday at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens Education and Welcome Center of Democratic Presidential candidate Marianne Williamson.

The self-help author talked about the country being in a crisis and how today’s economy is under a sociopathic system, and that we’ve reverted back to an aristocratic society. Williamson believes the country is suffering from an economic injustice and there needs to be a spiritual and moral awakening. She talked about why she is running for president.

“I’m running for president because I do not see the underlying dynamics and called out on the level that we need to be in order for genuine transformation to occur. And I feel that that needs to be the role of the president more than anything else at this time. And it is a role of moral leadership and not just political mechanics.”

She pointed out her key areas that she’s running on for her candidacy, which includes: raising minimum wage to $15 per hour, universal healthcare, making college free for everyone, establishing a childhood health cabinet position, educating the public on racism, and working towards a solution for climate change.

This was the third Democratic Presidential candidate this year that has made a campaign stop in Jefferson. To learn more about Williamson, click the link below.
