A special free performance is taking place this weekend in Jefferson that explores farmland transfers.

Practical Farmers of Iowa and the Center for Rural Affairs have teamed up to put on “Map of My Kingdom,” which looks at the issues of transferring farmland and the decisions that go into that. The hour-long play is based on one character, Angela Martin, played by Waterloo native Erica Kuhn, a mediator who handles land transition disputes. She talks about different interactions she’s had with farmers and landowners and the land transactions she’s had in her career. The play was written by Iowa poet Mary Swander and commissioned by Practical Farmers of Iowa in 2014.

Following the play, there will be a discussion with the audience facilitated either by Swander or Practical Farmers of Iowa staff. The play will be at History Boy Theatre Company in Jefferson on Saturday at 7pm. Reservations are required and the deadline is March 6th. To reserve a spot, contact Debra Boekholder at 515-232-5661 or via email at debra@practicalfarmers.org.
