The Perry Fire and Police departments worked together Wednesday night to put out a house fire, mitigating most of the damage.
Assistant Fire Chief Brian Eiteman says the fire was reported at 522 3rd Street at around 9:45 p.m., and police officers were first on the scene. They found the fire, which had started on the back porch of the dwelling. The officers were able to battle the fire mostly by themselves, using fire extinguishers. When the Fire Department arrived, Eiteman said their job was mostly ventilating the smoke and investigating the cause. He said it was determined the fire started as a result of an electrical overload on a line connected to the dryer in the house. It started burning insulation and carpeting on the porch, but there was no serious damage done to the house itself.
There was one occupant of the residence who was home at the time, and he was able to get out without injury. He was checked at the scene by Dallas County Emergency Medical Services, but no treatment was required. Once the smoke was fully evacuated, the resident was able to return to the house.
