The Dallas County Auditor’s Office recently moved many historic records online, and they’re hosting an open house soon to walk the public through how to use it.
Auditor Julia Helm encourages people unsure of how to access the digital records to attend the event, which will be held on Wednesday, March 13th from 1-3 p.m. The open house will be held at the elections office, located at 210 North 10th Street in Adel. There is no cost to attend, and people can come and go as they please. The records were digitized through Cott Systems Online Land Records, with help from the Recorder’s Office. The company scanned the older transfer books and historical plats, with the images now available online.
Funds to accomplish the digital transition were provided by a special account set aside by the State of Iowa for record preservation. Typically the money is earmarked for the Recorder’s Office, but Dallas County Recorder Chad Airhart allocated some of his funds to go to the Auditor’s office. Cott Systems was also the same company that converted much of the Recorder’s records.
