A very educational Chamber Coffee event was held Friday morning, which shouldn’t have come as a surprise to attendees, since it was hosted by the Perry Community School District.
The monthly event, organized by the Perry Chamber of Commerce, began outside the Perry High School Performing Arts Center. Superintendent Clark Wicks then took attendees on a tour, which started in the room containing the Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) program. Industrial Technology Instructor Chad Morman showed the group some of the engineering and 3D-printing capabilities available to students.
Wicks then showed everyone the assortment of museum-quality exhibits on display, which is unique among schools in Iowa, such as a recreation of an old one-room schoolhouse and the “Education Wall.” Finally, he took everyone to a room they likely never knew existed: the school’s food shelf, where students in low-income families can get food and other items like personal hygiene products and school supplies. The Perry Chamber hosts the coffee events on the second Friday of every month as a way to bring people together to network and learn about what’s going on in the community.
